Indeed the Piggott paper in 1979 seemed very enthusiastic about the whole area. As however happened with sulphate, research waxes and wanes.<br /><br />I do think there is quite a bit more we can learn from the whole amino acid - bacteria chemistry particularly now that the gut bacteria research is on the up.
