This was in the mid 1950's. He seemed normal at birth but later developed typical symptomatology. Not sure how good physicians were in picking up early signs of autism in infants at that time. He has never been able to talk and was only investigated when talking did not develop. I remember he gradually developed typical symptoms e.g. repetitive movements, head banging etc. He did not have other diagnosed congenital defects e.g. congenital varicella syndrome or symptomatic encephalitis.
